CPD workshop on: Can there really be a recovery model for mental health?

CPD workshop on: Can there really be a recovery model for mental health?

Whilst recovery has recently been promoted as the proper aim for mental healthcare, there has been little agreement about what it involves, whether it is a genuine contrast to a bio-medical view of psychiatric care, and what its precise connection to both values and narratives. This session explores what a recovery model might involve.

Who should attend?
The session is aimed at anyone with an interest in high level thinking about the proper aims of mental healthcare, such as mental health care providers, service users, researchers and policy makers

Learning outcomes
This workshop will explore the question of whether recovery can be a model and thus can stand opposed to other models of healthcare. It will examine the potential role for values in forming a conception of health or wellbeing, the nature of those values and their connection to social inclusion. And it will examine how narratives might be particularly suited to articulating the nature of recovery for different individuals.
